Replacing the fuel lines on a Chevy Avalanche is a job you can do on your own and save hundreds of dollars off the cost of taking your truck to the mechanic. All you need is a basic set of tools and a little know-how.

We'll cover that in this post as well as things to consider, including the tools you need and some helpful tips.

Parts And Tools Needed To Change Fuel Lines

LinesToGo offers the following fuel lines for several different Chevy Avalanche models:

In addition to the fuel lines, you'll need the following tools:

  • •Socket set and ratchet wrench
  • •Pliers, screwdrivers, and vice grips
  • •Jack stands
  • •Shop rags and nitrile gloves
  • •Safety glasses
  • •Bucket or pan to catch any remaining fuel in the lines

Other helpful tools to consider include an inexpensive set of quick-connect tools to remove the fuel lines, which is well worth the money. If you're unsure how the quick connect tools work, check out this video on using a plastic tool to separate the fitting.

Tips For Installing Fuel Lines

To help you get started, we offer Chevy fuel line installation instructions and this video on installing fuel lines on an Avalanche. The Avalanche shares the same platform with Chevrolet and GMC full-size trucks, the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon, so the steps are essentially the same for all vehicles.

Here are some other helpful tips to get started:

The video above shows how to install a nylon line splice kit and reuse the original fittings.

We also use shipping twists and/or shipping bends to ensure safe shipment. Check out the videos above to learn about how to remove them before installation.

Additionally, you'll want to consider the following to make the job easier and safer:

    • Keep a fire extinguisher handy because you're working around flammable liquids and vapors.
    • Wear old clothes and nitrile gloves, and safety goggles for protection.
    • Work in a well-ventilated area so you aren't breathing too many gasoline fumes.

Steps For Replacing Fuel Lines On A Chevy Avalanche

Preparing To Disconnect The Fuel Lines

    1. Before disconnecting the fuel lines, you'll need to relieve the fuel pressure. Otherwise, any pressurized fuel will spray all over you and your vehicle.
      • •Start by locating and removing the fuse or relay for your car's fuel pump.
      • •Then try starting the car. If it won't start or shuts off after a few seconds, you've depressurized the fuel lines.
    2. Disconnect the battery by removing the negative battery cable.
    3. Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
    4. Locate the existing fuel lines and fuel line connectors.

    Disconnecting The Old Fuel Lines

Start by placing a bucket or drain pan under the fuel line before disconnecting them. Then using the appropriate wrench or fuel line disconnect tool, loosen the fittings and remove any clamps or brackets securing the fuel lines to the vehicle's frame.

While replacing the fuel lines, it's also a good idea to replace the fuel filter, which may have become partially clogged with dirt or other contaminants.

    Installing The New Fuel Lines

The first step is to use the Chevy fuel line instruction diagrams to ensure the new fuel lines match the specifications and size of the original lines.

Once you've confirmed everything matches up, install the new fuel lines and tighten the clamps and connectors. Then reconnect the battery and turn the vehicle's ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine. This will pressurize the system, allowing you to check for leaks.

If no leaks are detected with the fuel system pressurized, start the vehicle and do a final check for leaks while running.
