How To Determine Your Gross Vehicle And Gross Axle Weight Ratings
Every production vehicle has two unique weight ratings that are important to know. These are the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). You can find these figures listed on the vehicle information label on the rear of the driver-side door or door jamb. It is also listed in the owner’s manual.
Note: Some of our line sets require you to know the specific weight ratings of your vehicle.
This information is important to know as some of our line sets require you to know your vehicle's specific weight rating. This will ensure that you get the proper lines for your vehicle.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
The GVWR is the maximum weight your vehicle can safely carry, including passengers, cargo, and fuel. Choosing a brake or transmission line that cannot handle the necessary loads can end in disaster.
Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR)
The GAWR refers to the maximum weight each axle can support. The front and rear axle figures are very similar and usually add up to the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. On some vehicles, the combined GAWR figure can be higher, as the manufacturer may build in a margin of error to prevent overloading.
